The Fruita Connection Trail Project, which should be complete by 2013, will provide a vital link to the Colorado Riverfront Trail System. The trail alignment is proposed to follow the river, generally on the north side, parallel to the frontage road. The new trail will be constructed in three phases:
  • Riverfront Trail Section— 2.7 miles (Junior Service League Park to Walter Walker State Wildlife Area)
  • I-70 Right-Of-Way Section—2.2 miles (22 Road to 20 Road)
  • I-70 Frontage Road Section—3.2 miles (20 Road to the Fruita Visitor Center)

Design and engineering of this project is being managed by the Mesa County
